On Sunday the 2013 California State Poker Championship wrapped up with a $2,080 Main Event. 258 players made up the starting field and in the end 2012 WSOP gold-bracelet winner Brent Hanks won the first prize of $117,760. Hanks beat another WSOP gold-bracelet winner, Gavin Griffin, into second place after they went head to head and the board ran out with Hanks on top. Griffin took $82,640 for his victory and Daniel Park came third with $53,160. Hanks’ victory was the third largest of his career and pushed his live tournament winnings up to over $1.4 million.

At the 2012-2013 WSOP Circuit Harrahs New Orleans Main Event, Luke Graham took home a win that every womens beginner poker player dreams of. Graham beat a field of 762 players to secure himself a $228,600 prize and a seat at the National Championship. Graham went head to head in a fierce battle with Joseph Hebert and it seemed that Hebert was in with a chance until Graham hit a hand that allowed him to emerge as the winner. Hebert took second place and $140,932 and Kasra Khodayarkhani came third with $103,899.

In online poker the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) has been making headlines, with some big winners emerging. The tournament is now almost half-way through and many womens beginner poker players have been keeping a close eye on the proceedings to pick up some tips and tricks from the pros. Jarcon86 has won Event #25, beating 131 other entrants to take the prize. He took away $68,120 for his efforts.

Event #22-H; the $2,100 NL Hold ‘em game saw Str8$$$Homey bank $377,000 after he beat a field of 1048 players. Str8$$$Homey beat David “WhooooKidd” Baker and stopped him from claiming his second SCOOP title, but he did manage to take home $272,480 for second place. It was an epic final-table battle as Str8$$$Homey won Event #23 at WCOOP in 2009 and is a two-time WSOP bracelet winner, whilst Baker is an accomplished player with a previous SCOOP title to his name. Str8$$$Homey may have emerged as the winner but the fight was suitably fierce and entertaining.
